Man killed, two wounded in Abiemnhom County ambush

A man identified as Kur Deng Manyror, 32, was shot dead, and two other travelers were wounded in a road ambush in Abiemnhom County in Ruweng Administrative Area on Thursday evening, local authorities and residents confirmed.

Captain Majok Machar, the police Inspector in Abiemnhom County, told this publication on Friday morning that the victims were riding motorcycles when they were ambushed in an area between Majak and Awila Payams on their way to Abiemnhom County.

“The incident occurred yesterday (Thursday) at 6 p.m., and the deceased was identified as Kur Deng Monyror, 32, while the wounded are Mayai Arop Machar, 29, and Kong Mut Majak, 21,” he stated.

He said there are two military detachments in the vicinity of the attack and wondered why the army failed to protect the riders.

“We are trying to pursue the assailants, but we are astonished how the attack occurred near two close military camps around the place of the incident,” Capt. Machar said.

A resident of Abiemnhom who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons said the two injured persons were first hospitalized in a local hospital before being referred to Turalei in Warrap State’s Twic County for intensive medical care.

“Yesterday (Thursday), the injured were first hospitalized in a hospital in Abiemnhom, but they were later referred to Turalei for medication because one of them has to be operated on after a bullet stuck inside his body,” he said.

He has accused armed elements from Mayom County in Unity State of being responsible for the ambush.

“The suspects are armed criminals from Mayom County in Unity State,” he said.
