Akolda Man Tier, head of the South Sudan Constitutional Review Commission and a renowned professor of law has died, his family and the government announced Tuesday.

The exact cause of the death remains the subject of speculations. A statement from the family and his community leader, Daniel Awet Akot, said Man Tier was found dead in his hotel room in Kampala, Uganda, where he was awaiting a connection to Germany for medical care.

Akot described the deceased as a great and humble man. “He was on transit to Germany for medical care unfortunately he did make it there. He was dead in his room this morning,” he said.
