3 dead as dengue fever spreads in Khartoum

The Emergency Room in Bahri in Sudan’s Khartoum State revealed in a statement that three people have died of dengue fever, confirming the spread of the disease.

The city of Bahri is witnessing suspected cases of dengue fever, with symptoms appearing in a large number of citizens. This is attributed to the weakness of healthcare and examination mechanisms in the city, making it difficult to accurately diagnose the disease.

High fever, body aches, and severe headaches are among the most common symptoms and indications of dengue fever and these indications have been registered in a large number of citizens. Consequently, suspected cases have been identified in local centers.

Dr. Haneen, a member of the Medical Office of the Bahri Emergency Room, told Radio Tamazuj that the disease is spreading in the area.

“Dengue fever has spread in Bahri and South Bahri significantly, and according to the initial statistics we conducted and another conducted later, three people, including an emergency room volunteer, have died as a result,” she revealed. “There are many infections, but there are no accurate statistics due to communication disruptions and difficulty in mobility.”

The statement said there is suspicion that the death of one Omar, an emergency room volunteer, was due to dengue fever instead of malaria which was initially suspected, due to the presence of kidney stones, making it necessary to take swift action to prevent the spread of the disease.

The Emergency Room called on local authorities to take immediate measures to combat the spread of dengue fever, increase inspection and examination efforts to detect cases of the disease and provide necessary vaccinations and medications for the treatment of the infected.
